A Danville woman was injured Wednesday after she fell out of the car she was driving while trying to inspect it for mechanical problems.
Mary Harrod suffered "road rash" on her back and other injuries after being dragged by the vehicle, said Danville Police Sgt. Todd Davis.
Harrod was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center by Boyle County Emergency Medical Service for treatment.
Assistant Chief Tony Gray said Harrod and passenger Barbara Morris of Danville were traveling north on Fifth Street when they heard a popping sound from the vehicle, possibly because it had jumped out of gear.
Harrod stopped her Ford Mustang at the intersection with Lexington Avenue, applied the emergency brake, and then leaned out of the car from the driver's seat to see if she could discern any problems underneath the vehicle while fooling with the gear shift at the same time, Gray said.
