On consecutive days late last week, Jessamine County school buses were involved in minor traffic accidents.

Last Thursday Chris Bellman, the director of transportation for the Jessamine County School District, said a car slid into a bus at South Main Street and U.S. 27 causing minor "cosmetic damage" to the bus.

According to a police report from the Nicholasville Police Department, the Jan. 11 accident occurred around 7:25 a.m. when the bus was stopped at a traffic light on South Main Street when Brian S. Robinson of Lancaster attempted to make a right turn onto South Main Street and lost control of his 1992 Chevrolet Lumina Euro, causing it to crash into the left front bumper of the bus.

The report says Robinson admitted to looking in his rear view mirror when the accident occurred.

On Friday, a minor accident caused slight body damage to another bus that had been in service for less than two weeks.

"There was some body damage, but no structural damage," he said.

Friday's accident occurred around 3:15 p.m., just before school let out at East Middle School.

According to the accident report from the Nicholasville Police Department, the school bus driver, Curtis Tankersley, failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim driven by Arthur L. Brestel of Wilmore.

The report says Brestel was traveling too fast for conditions when the accident occurred.

Both school buses were free of students when the accidents occurred.
