Clark County Coroner David Jacobs has released the name of a man killed in a car accident last week on Athens-Boonesboro Road near Hall's on the River. Dewayne Laliberte, 49, of 8950 Old Richmond Road was killed when the car he was riding in plunged over a 70-foot cliff Thursday night at about 6:05 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Richard A. Parsons, 49, of Lexington, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and murder as a result of the accident.

According to a report by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Parsons' vehicle was traveling west when he lost control of it and steered too hard, causing it to veer off the roadway. The 1992 Honda Civic then went over an embankment and struck a tree. Officers were on the scene of the accident until about 11 p.m.

Parsons was treated for minor injuries at Clark Regional Medical Center and was charged after being released from the hospital Friday. Officers determined that he was the driver of the vehicle, and a report cited alcohol as a factor in the wreck.

The men shared a residence at 8950 Old Richmond Road, according to Jacobs. Laliberte is originally from Massachusetts, he said, and he has not yet been able to notify any relatives. Anyone with information about him is asked to call Jacobs at 744-0035.

On Monday, Judge William G. Clouse denied a bond reduction for Parsons in Clark District Court and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
