Danville's Ross Hempel, the defending Class A 800-meter champion, took second place in that event Saturday at the Wildcat Classic indoor meet at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Hempel finished in 2:01.64 and was second to John Hardin's Aundreas Lopez (1:59.9).
"Ross ran a very nice race," Danville coach Chris Verhoven said. "I was proud of the effort he's been putting in since practice began in late December."
