Cartersville blaze destroys trailer, vehicle

February 07, 2007|BOBBIE CURD

CARTERSVILLE - A fire Tuesday afternoon destroyed a trailer with a built-on addition on Brock Road in Garrard County.

Emergency Management Director Dwayne Nave said the unit was engulfed in flames by the time he arrived on the scene seven minutes after receiving the call about 12:30 p.m. "A Cartersville firefighter arrived there in three minutes, and he said it was already fully engulfed," Nave said. This morning, it still was unknown what caused the blaze.

"There's been some talk of a wood-burning stove being kicked over, but we still don't know," Nave said. One person resided in the trailer, and he was not injured.

Nave said the fire spread to a vehicle parked out back of the structure, gutting the car. It also spread to a outbuilding but was caught in time.

Cartersville Fire Department responded, along with Garrard County District One and the Buckeye Fire Department; 20,000 gallons of water were used in an attempt to control the fire. "It probably took three or four hours," Nave said.

Nave said they finally had to let the fire burn itself out. "It was a really, really hot blaze," Nave said. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
