February 20, 2007|Betty Smith

The Winchester Sun and BVS will sponsor the Taste of Home cooking school on Monday, April 2, at Calvary Christian Church, 15 Redwing Drive.

A live cooking demonstration will be geared to home cooks who are looking for economical, quick-to-fix weeknight meals and sensational dishes for entertaining.

Each spring and fall the Taste of Home team of 10 culinary specialists packs up their vans and travels to more than 250 communities from coast-to-coast to present this unique cooking program

The cooking school will provide an entertaining evening at a reasonable price. Those attending will receive step-by-step recipe instruction, cooking tips and kitchen shortcuts and opportunities to win special door prizes from national sponsors and local vendors.

A free promotional gift bag will be given to each attendee, along with a free copy of the Taste of Home cooking school magazine that includes the featured recipes.

Guests can sample products and learn about community services. Refreshments may be served at a concession stand or guests might be directed to area restaurants to catch a bite to eat before the program begins.

The traditional Taste of Home cooking school will highlight spring recipes with tantalizing flavors. Special show segments will be devoted to desserts and brunch dishes

This 2-1/2 hours presentation includes a 15-minute "stretch & win break" for prize drawings. Best of all, the completed dishes will given to several lucky winners to take home.

The newest program focuses on recipes that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Taste of Home Cooking School Made Easy is a slightly shorter one and one-half hour program without intermission.

This spring's "Get Cooking" theme emphasizes simple and delicious out door entertaining ideas. Like its sister cooking presentation, Taste of Home Cooking School Made Easy provides each guest with a free cookbook that includes the featured recipes.

Names are drawn for door prizes as well as the completed dishes to be given to lucky winners. Limited sampling of one of the featured recipes is offered in locations where permitted by local health code regulations.

Tickets are $8 per person while they last and may be obtained at The Sun or BVS. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.

Additional information may be obtained by calling Renee Jones at The Sun, (859) 744-3123.
