Actress Elizabeth Taylor celebrated her 50th birthday Saturday in London with a large birthday cake. She was in London to make her British stage debut in "The Little Foxes."

The Winchester downtown commercial district is on its way to a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, an action that could pave the way for extensive downtown development and change the face of the downtown area.

Mr. and Mrs. James E. Owens of Winchester announce the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Denise to John Kenneth Bryant, son of Mrs. Veva Bryant of Winchester and Harold F. Bryant of Lexington. The wedding will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Central Baptist Church followed by a reception in the fellowship hall of the church. The custom of open church will be observed.

Wayne Martin who guided the Morehead State Eagles' men's basketball team into the OVC playoff this season, has been named coach of the year in the Ohio Valley Conference. Martin is a native of Winchester, a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and Morehead and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Martin.

Martha Venable, a sophomore at George Rogers Clark High School, has been named the Future Farmers of America Leader of the Month for February.
