Danville runners post three wins at Mason-Dixon

LOUISVILLE - The Danville boys won three championships Saturday in the Mason-Dixon games, the unofficial indoor state championship for high school track and field.

Ross Hempel won the 800-meter run, Derrik Henderson won the 400 run and a team of Jamie Grey, Henderson, Nick Winkler and Hempel won the 1,600 relay.

Danville was second in the Class A boys team standings with 70 points, five points behind champion Bishop Brossart.

The Admirals were also second in three individual events as Daylen Morris was runner-up in the long jump and triple jump and B.J. Strode ran second in the 55 hurdles.

Antwoine Simon was third in the 55 dash.

"I'm very impressed with our turnout this year. I'm very proud of the boys for what they accomplhished today," Danville coach Chris Verhoven said.

"Hopefully it's a preview of what's to come in the outdoor season, because our goal is to win a state championship in the outdoor season this year."
