Net Xpress: Gizmo Project 3.0 released

March 05, 2007|SHEILA J. CLARK

Gizmo Project 3.0 has been released with new features including Meta-Voice. Meta-Voice allows free calls to users of other popular VoIP services such as Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live users. This feature makes it the first VoIP software to join multiple popular VoIP networks into one.

To make a call to someone using the new Meta-Voice feature simply type the ID or username of the person you wish to call with the network domain (i.e. username@yahoo.com or username@hotmail.com).

Other features of Gizmo Project 3.0 include group chat, file sharing, custom avatars, a tabbed chat interface and chat logging.

Gizmo Project Version 3.0 is only available for Windows 2000/XP. You also need a microphone, speakers, dialup or broadband Internet connection to use the service. There are older versions of Gizmo Project that are available for download for Linux and Mac OS X.

Mac tip

Ever had a mapped drive appear on your desktop but not show up in the list in Finder? If so, here's how to fix it. Open Finder, then from the line menu go to Finder Preferences. On the tab called Sidebar Settings, look for Servers. Make sure there is a checkmark beside Servers and not a dash. If there is a dash, click in the box to make it a check mark instead. Now your missing mapped drive should appear in Finder.
