HINDMAN - Kentucky's adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Donald C. Storm, will visit soldiers from the Kentucky Army National Guard's 217th Quartermaster Detachment, based in Danville, at 11:15 a.m. Monday at Knott Central High School in Hindman. Following the site visit, Storm will have lunch with the troops at the high school and then will meet with the county judge-executive, mayor and emergency management officials in the school's conference room.
The 217th Quartermaster Detachment has been on site providing relief due to the area's water shortage. The soldiers are capable of transforming non-potable water into purified drinking water under a variety of austere conditions. This unit has provided its unique service in the past during natural disasters in the United States and in wartime conditions overseas. In addition to being deployed in support of the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 217th Quartermaster also has traveled to Central America to provide its unique skills.
