Airman Gary D. McQuinn, son of William K. and Ethel W. McQuinn, 48 Rowland Ave., has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The airman is a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School.

Navy Operations Specialist Seaman Apprentice Walter H. Mathis Jr., son of Lou Mathis of 205 Waveland, Winchester, recently departed on an extended deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. A 1979 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Mathis joined the Navy in July 1979.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation has announced that bids will be accepted on March 26 for painting bridges in Clark and Boyle Counties. In Clark County the project will include cleaning and painting the bridge over the Red River on the Irvine Road at the Estill County line.

Alicia Quisenberry, Winchester, is a member of Western Kentucky University's Riding Team that took second-place honors recently at the Inter-Collegiate Horse Show Association's Region Six meet at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Kentucky Heritage Division has nixed proposed plans for renovation of the Brown-Proctor Hotel into federal-subsidized housing for the elderly and has sent a letter to the National Advisory Council on Historic Preservation citing the proposed construction as having an "adverse effect" on the historic value of the building.

The possibility of saving the boys' dorm on the old Southeastern College campus for use as a community center delayed a decision by the Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Board to begin development of College Park.
