The George Rogers Clark JROTC Long Knife Regiment took third place in the annual Morehead State University Raider Challenge on Saturday. The competition against eight regional schools was composed of a color guard and squad drill competition, army physical fitness test, tug-of-war, the one-rope bridge and a cross-country obstacle course.
The Long Knives took first place in the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) with a team average of 268 of 300 points. Cadet Angela Hartmann took first place for the highest APFT female score at the competition. APFT team members besides Hartmann were Alexis DeArruda, Ryan Borja, Kyle Roberts, Desiree Taulbee, and Zackery Banks. Cadet Brett Morguson replaced Desiree Taulbee on the obstacle course team which took fifth place.
The one-rope bridge team also took first place with a crossing time of three minutes and 25 seconds. The team earned a one-minute safety penalty when the wireman's knot failed to function correctly, but the team had a fast enough time to still take home the first place trophy. Team captain was Cadet Zackery Banks. Team members included Phariz Jett, Borja, DeArruda, Bobby Gipson, Hartmann, Roberts, Taulbee, Travis Mann, Bobby Hempel and Michael Wilson. This team also competed in the tug-of-war event.
