Police arrested one man Wednesday and are still looking for another after strong-arm robberies Tuesday night at the Danville and Stanford Wal-Marts.

Curtis Hampton, 44, of 108 Star Ave., Stanford, is in the Boyle County Detention Center today, charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count each of possession of marijuana and contempt of court.

State Police Detective Bill Collins and Danville Police Detective Sgt. Patrick McQueen identified Hampton as a suspect while investigating leads from both Wal-Mart robberies. Hampton's Mazda, with Kentucky license plate 110ABV, was reportedly at one of the robbery scenes.

The officers knew Hampton frequented Heather Hills and Meadow Run apartments and the Ben Ali Drive area in Danville. Officers were advised to use caution in apprehending Hampton because they believed he might try to flee or resist arrest.

An officer located the car in Heather Hills and watched it while other officers went to the location. As the vehicle began to leave the parking lot at the apartment complex, a supervisor advised the officers to stop it and prevent Hampton from leaving.

A passenger in the car, Brad Hampton, fled on foot and was not located.

A search of the vehicle revealed a shotgun concealed in a jacket between the vehicle seats, and Curtis Hampton had a shotgun shell in his pocket, as well as a large amount of shells in the trunk. Police say there was also a second license plate in the trunk.

Officers located suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and other suspected illegal drugs. Assistant Police Chief Tom Bustle said the Danville Wal-Mart victim was approximately 73 years old and in a wheelchair.

"The suspect grabbed the purse off her arm hard enough to injure her," Bustle said.
