New Casey hospital will have helipad

March 15, 2007|BRENDA S. EDWARDS

LIBERTY - The site plan for the new Casey County Hospital appears to be in order.

Representatives of the hospital, Parsons Corp. and JRA & Associates reviewed plans for drainage, lighting and a helipad Wednesday with the City Council.

Jack Lowe, project manager, said the new facility will be up and running before the current hospital is demolished.

He said a helipad will be located at the site and will be built to state regulations. Lighting of the area will not be in use unless a helicopter is landing. Lowe said some trees will be left on the site to buffer sound of the helicopter and shouldn't cause damage to roofs of nearby houses.

The visitors parking area will be accessible from Wolford and College streets and the ambulance traffic will enter from the same route. There will be 99 parking spaces compared to 60 current spaces.

The number of lighting fixtures in the parking lot will be minimal and should not put out too much light outside of the parking area.

Work has been done to prevent overloading the existing drainage on Adams and College streets. Plans call for an underground storage area to slow down water so it doesn't overload the system, Lowe said.

Mayor Steve Sweeney expressed concern about drainage on Adams Street where more lines may have to be installed to carry water. He said the city may put in a 36-inch line from Adams Street to the bypass to help with the problem.

Sweeney also said there should not be any problems with zoning.

"The city has always worked well with the hospital," Sweeney said. "I don't see any changes in that. We're glad to have a new hospital."
