Peek's hiring in Somerset now official

March 30, 2007

Danville Police Chief Jeff Peek, whose retirement takes effect April 1, swore in Assistant Chief Tony Gray today as interim chief.

Gray will serve until the city hires a successor for Peek.

Peek's hiring as Somerset police chief is now official. The city council there approved his hiring by an 8-4 vote earlier in the month but at a salary of $45,000.

Somerset Mayor Eddie Girdler, who picked Peek for the job, had offered him $65,000, but the council would not go along with that amount.

Peek, who was both police chief and public safety director in Danville, earned $69,000 here.
