APRIL 27-29 EKU's ALUMNI WEEKEND

Eastern Kentucky University will host its annual Alumni Weekend April 27-29.

This year's event features special reunions for the classes of '37, '42, '47, '52, '57, '62, '67, '72 and '77. Alumni of all years are welcome.

One of the highlights is the annual Alumni Awards and Recognition Banquet, at which nine Eastern alumni are to be inducted into the University's Hall of Distinguished Alumni. The event will be Saturday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Keen Johnson Ballroom. Tickets for the banquet are $26 each.

EKU's own "Derby Event" will be on Friday, April 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Stratton Building with dinner and music from the '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s provided by DJ Josh Hale of Phantom Entertainment. Derby attire and dancing shoes are suggested. The cost is $24 per person and reservations are required.

Any graduates from 1957 and earlier who would like to be recognized this year as an EKU Pioneer should contact the Alumni Relations office at (859) 622-1260.

COURTNEY WILLIAMS TRANSY PAPER EDITOR

LEXINGTON-George Rogers Clark High School graduate and Transylvania University sophomore Courtney Williams has been named news editor of the Transylvania student newspaper.

The Rambler has been Transylvania's student newspaper since 1915.

"Courtney's understanding of the importance a newspaper plays in any community made her a natural fit for the news editor position," said Ed DeRosa, Transylvania's director of student journalism. "She will no doubt help The Rambler become the go-to publication on campus for news and views."

Williams is the daughter of French and Cynthia Williams of Winchester.

TRANSY OFFERS SUMMER CAMPS

Transylvania University is offering junior high and high school students three summer academic camps in computer languages and programs and robotics. Two are overnight camps and one is a day camp.

The first overnight camp, Introduction to Computer Programming, is open to students entering grades 8-12. The camp runs June 10-15, is $300 per camper and is limited to 40 students.

The second overnight camp, Introduction to Java and Perl, is for students entering grades 10-12. The camp runs June 17-22, is $350 per camper and is limited to 35 students. In order to be eligible for this camp, students must have attended a previous Transylvania computer camp or taken some high school programming classes.

The day camp, Programming and Robotics, is open to students entering grades 6-8. The camp is offered June 25-30, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The cost is $200 per camper, plus an optional charge for the robotics camp, and is limited to 35 students.

The application deadline for all three camps is May 1.
