Voting to open for parent council member

Bate Middle School Council parent nominations have been received. Voting is 6 p.m. today and 7:30-4 p.m. Thursday in the school lobby. Those eligible to vote include parents, stepparents, foster parents and legal guardians if the student lives in their home. Voting results will be announced 3:45 p.m. Friday in the school office.

Lane elected chair of Heritage board

The Kentucky Agriculture Center Board recently elected Margaret Adams Lane of Woodford County as the new chairperson for the Heritage Center Board.

Lane will direct the board in the formation of the Kentucky Agriculture Heritage Center to be located in Harrodsburg.

The mission of the KAHC is to create an environment for learning, reflecting on the past, showcasing the present and fostering the advancement of Kentucky Agriculture.

The KAHC headquarters is located at 2805 Louisville Road in Harrodsburg.

National Day of Prayer scheduled

The National Day of Prayer observance will be noon-1 p.m. Thursday at the gazebo in Weisiger Park. In case of rain, it will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 320 W. Main St. The location is downtown so workers there can attend conveniently. Participants may bring their lunch and a folding chair.

The theme of the day is "America, Unite in Prayer." Those present and those not present can pray for our government, church, family, education, media and military.

Christian motorcycle run set for Saturday

The Christian Motorcyclists Association will host its 20th Annual Run For The Son on Saturday. The El-Shaddai Charioteers of Stanford, one of more than 915 chapters involved in the Christian Motorcyclists Association, will participate. Riders will seek sponsors to help raise money for CMA to "spread the light of Jesus to every nation."

The organization's goal is $3.5 million. Anyone interested in participating in this event may meet at the Danville Wal-Mart parking lot at noon Saturday. The ride is about 100 miles, round trip. For more information or to sponsor someone for the run, call (859) 339-0364.

Earth Day winners announced

LANCASTER - Winners of the Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World Pledge raffle Saturday at the Garrard Earth Day Festival were Karen Renner, Mary Davis, Sadie Hollon and Kim Hacker. Each will receive a multi-pack of energy-efficient light bulbs valued at $10. The Coca-Cola REAL 4-H Recycling and Environmental High School Club won one of 37 mini grants from the Governor's Office of Energy Policy to educate consumers about the environmental and cost benefits of energy-efficient lighting.

Mercer church to host gospel sing

HARRODSBURG - The Perfect Ministry at Carpenter's Christian Church, 1340 U.S. 127 Bypass, will present its monthly southern gospel sing at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Narrow Road, a Bluegrass gospel band of Berea, and The Hill Top Trio, a southern gospel group of Alton Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg, will be in concert.

Women's shooting clinic scheduled

The National Rifle Association's Women On Target program is sponsoring an instructional shooting clinic for women on Saturday at the Blue Grass Sportsmen's League in Wilmore. The clinic will begin with sign-in at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 5 p.m. The ranges are located at 2500 Handy's Bend Road in Wilmore.

Registration for the clinic is $10 per participant. Pre-registration is required.

Silent auction to benefit March of Dimes

Johnson & Pohlmann is hosting a silent auction in its office to benefit the March of Dimes. Bidding already is under way and will end noon Monday.
