Hands That Touch the Heart

Summer reading program

Theme: "Get a Clue at Your Library." Special activities will include a visit from Rainbow Puppets performing "Henny Penny" and a combination magician and ventriloquist.

Dates: June 12-July 19.

Times and ages: Toddler, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday; preschool, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday or 10:30 a.m. Wednesday; kindergarten through grade 1, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday; grades 2 and up, 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Arts for Kids Half-Day Camp

Description: Theme is "Save the Rainforest for Me!" Culminates in a lunchtime presentation of a living rainforest environment created by campers through explorations in art, music, dance and drama during the three-week period.

Instructors: Kim Nicholson of Ravenwood Center, art; Brian Pavloff, music; Arts for Kids ETC director Rebecca Ryland, drama and dance.

Dates: 9 a.m. to noon June 11-29.

Ages: 6-12.

Cost: $75 for one week; $135 for two weeks; $180 for all three weeks.

Spanish Immersion Camp for Kids

Description: Total immersion Spanish course for children. Spanish teachers will lead lessons as well as activities including crafts, music, nature and games, all of which will be only in Spanish.

Instructors: Teachers from Spain.

Dates: June 4-8. First session: 9 a.m. to noon. Second session: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Ages: 7 to 12.

Location: Community Arts Center.

Cost: $180 per child; $150 per second child or second session. ($50 registration fee non-refundable)

DAY CAMPS

STARS

Description: Theme is "Camp Learn-a-Lot." Tentative topics include technology camp with camera basics, digital photography, PowerPoint, journalism, graphic design and videography. Also, a Arts and Humanities camp with drama, dance, art, music, musical instruments, reader's theater and puppetry. The third is the multi-cultural camp including a second language, costumes, cooking and crafts. Breakfast and lunch provided.

Dates: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from June 4 to 8 and June 11 to 15.

Ages: grades K-5.

Location: Kentucky School for the Deaf.

Cost: $65 per week.

Recreation Department Summer Day Camp

Dates: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday beginning June 4 and continuing six to eight weeks depending on enrollment.

Ages: 7-12.

Location: Davis Recreational Complex pool.

Cost: $3 per day.

Twinkletoes Summer Dance Camp

Description: Includes daily dance instruction, snacks, costumes and final recital.

Dates: 10 a.m. to noon, July 24-28 and July 31-Aug. 4

Cost: $80.

Limit: 20 girls, ages 6-9.

YMCA

Description: Arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor games, music, sports, nature and more. Also includes educational field trips and open swim time.

Dates: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with extended child care from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Monday through Fridays June 4-July 27 (no camp on July 4).

Ages: 5-12.

Location: Mercer County YMCA or Washington County YMCA.

Cost: Weekly fees: $90 per child/$160 for two children/ $240 for three children (same household).

Daily fees: $22 per child/ $38 for two children/ $52 for three children. $25 additional charged for field trip and required YMCA membership of $20 annually per child.

THEATER

The Ragged Edge Community Theater Summer Stage

Children and youth participants will practice and present "The Hobbit" with performances June 22-24 and June 29- July 1. This program is an opportunity for children with some experience in the theater to develop their skills. Half of the day will be spent in class and the other half on rehearsal.

Dates: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4-21.

Instructor: L. Henry Dowell, artistic director of RECT.

Ages: 7 and older.
