A head-on collision on Ky. 300 at Yates Road claimed the lives of two Junction City residents Monday evening.

Howard Myers, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Boyle County Coroner Mike Wilder. Myers' passenger, Anna L. Martin, died aboard the medical helicopter that was taking her to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Wilder said. She was pronounced dead at the Lexington hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, William Schepman of Upper Salt River Road, suffered minor injuries.

According to the Boyle County Sheriff's Department, Myers was headed west on Ky. 300 in a Mazda pickup truck when he entered the eastbound lane in preparation to turn left on to Yates Road. Schepman was traveling east in a Ford Explorer when Myers' truck pulled into his lane, police said.

The accident occurred about 6 p.m. Rescue workers from Boyle County, Junction City and Danville responded and spent several minutes working to extricate Martin from the Mazda, Wilder said.

Schepman was wearing his seat belt, but neither Myers nor Martin had theirs on, Wilder said.
