Youth Salute

The following George Rogers Clark High School students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principals for this year's Youth Salute. In order to qualify, the student had to be a member of the Class of 2007, have a 3.0 grade point average or better and have been elected to at least two positions of leadership in a school, religious or community-sponsored organization during the past two years. More GRC Youth Salute students will be featured in the Sun in the weeks to come.

NICHOLAS A. WILSON

Nicholas Wilson is currently a student at George Rogers Clark. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, which requires members to attain a 3.7 GPA or higher. He also volunteers his time through private tutoring after school.

He has been recognized across the nation for academic excellence and stability. He is involved in First Priority and is also an active member of his church youth group and media team.

Nicholas plans on pursuing a career in graphic art design, but is undecided on which college he will attend.

POMAIKAI SMITH

Pomaikai Smith has been a member of the Spanish Club, AP History Club, Teen Court and First Priority. She was a member of the Marching Band Color Guard State Finalist from 2003-06. She received the most improved section award for Color Guard in 2004. She was also a Winter Guard member in her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She won the Tri-State Circuit Championships in class Tri-State A for 2004.

Pomaikai is very active in her church youth group at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a Core Team leader and part of the Steubenville Committee for 2005-06. She regularly volunteers her time to help the St. Joseph Knights of Columbus. She also volunteers at the UK Hospital during the summer.

At this time, Pomaikai is undecided about her college plans.
