McKinney students jump ropes for heart health

May 10, 2007

McKinney Elementary students recently participated in the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops fundraising events sponsored by the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association uses the money raised in fund raising events to support research and educational programs to prevent heart disease and stroke. McKinney students raised a total of $1,099.00. This total surpassed all previous American Heart Association fundraising efforts! As part of the program, students spent the month of March learning about how the heart works and its importance in the body. Students also focused on learning how to keep their hearts healthy for the rest of their lifetimes. The month-long program was topped off with a Healthy Heart Event in which the students participated in rope jumping contest, a basketball shot contest, hula-hoop contest and ran the Heart Adventure Course. A staff vs. 5th grade students basketball game was the event's grand finale! Special congratulations and 'thank you' goes out to the school's top fundraising students. Daniel Sebastian raised $300 for Hoops and Kaylee Wray raised $85 for Jump Rope for Heart!
