Lincoln couple file medical malpractice claim

May 13, 2007|TODD KLEFFMAN

A Lincoln County couple have filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Ephraim McDowell Health and three employees alleging the health providers failed to warn them of an impending stroke.

The claim was filed last week in Boyle Circuit Court by James C. and Elizabeth Adams of Crab Orchard. It alleges that medical personnel conducted tests in 2005 showing James Adams had blocked arteries and faced a serious risk of a stroke, but did not inform Adams of the threat or provide treatment. James Adams suffered "a medically predictable debilitating stroke" last May, the lawsuit claims.

Dr. R. Findley Hendrickson, Dr. John H. Lacy, Nurse Practitioner Joan Arnold, Ephraim McDowell Health Resource Inc., Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and Central Kentucky Surgeons are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

None of the defendants has yet responded to the charges. McDowell spokesman Harry Nickens said he could not discuss the case.

"Obviously, we're concerned about good patient outcomes, but because this matter is in litigation, we can't discuss the details," Nickens said.

The lawsuit seeks an unidentified amount of compensatory damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of wages and loss of consortium.
