Track: Mercer sweeps Woodford meet

Casey girls win

The Mercer County boys and girls swept an all-comers meet packed with larger schools Tuesday at Versailles.

Half a dozen Class AAA schools competed in the meet hosted by Woodford County, and Class AA Mercer's emerged with a 221/2-point victory over Harrison County in the boys standings, while the Mercer girls edged Paul Dunbar by six points.

Chrys Jones gave the Mercer boys three of their four wins in the triple jump, long jump and high jump.

Loran Crowell won the 800-meter run and was second in the 3,200 and the discus for the Mercer girls, who also won two relays.

Casey girls win

At Campbellsville, the Casey County girls rolled to a 49-point victory over Taylor County in an all-comers meet hosted by Taylor.

Tiffany Murphy won three events for Casey, the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the high jump. Casey also swept all four relays.

Chaz Grider won the shot put and discus for the Casey boys, who were sixth out of seven teams.
