1949-2007

LIBERTY - Judy Derringer Gabehart, 58, died Wednesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born March 3, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Ruby Derringer. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Rhonda Thompson and Shaun Pendergraft, both of Liberty, and Waylon Roberts of Milford, Ohio; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother; Birdlegs Derringer; and a sister, Jane Derringer.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Bro. Jimmy Brown. Burial will be in Whited Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Iva Layer

1927-2007

STANFORD - Iva Bailey Layer, 79, of Stanford, died Wednesday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 17, 1927, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Claude and Maggie Burdine Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Danville. She was the widow of Alfred E. Layer Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Layer Sumner (Bill) of Tomball, Texas; a son, Matthew Daniel Layer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother, James Bailey (Jeanette) of Stanford; a sister, Pat Hubbard of Stanford; five grandchildren, Kelsey and Mikaela Layer, Wes Sumner, Jennifer Crews and Leighann Taylor; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Bailey; and two sisters, Josephine Nye and Betty Payne.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Witten. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Howard James

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Howard S. James, 72, of Brooksville, Fla., died Friday.

Born in Lancaster, Ky., he moved to Florida 21 years ago from Harrodsburg. He served in the Navy for four years and then in the Air Force for 16 years.

Survivors include his three sons, Brett James of Liberty, Ky.; Howard S. James Jr. and Ken B. James, both of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Dr. Tina James of Louisville, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Rebecca D. Henderson of Asheville, N.C., Cindy of Spring Hill, Fla., and Joy of Brooksville; a brother, Richard James of Harrodsburg, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
