Farmers plans additional expansion, locations

Executive Vice President Jeff Thornton says this year has shown him the most movement toward growth locally that he's seen in his 27-years' worth of involvement with the financial institution.

"Three facilities in one year - we've never opened three in a decade before," Thornton said. In addition to the new Lancaster location, a ribbon-cutting will be held at the new Harrodsburg branch this month.

"We're very pleased how this has gone," Thornton said. "All of our employees from the Legion Drive location transferred over there, plus we've added some new people." He said about 16 employees are on-site at the new branch, which is around 11,000 square feet under roof and canopy. Thornton said the Legion Drive location will remain, since it's "... kind of on the same campus," and the two properties are connected.

"We'll work to remodel it, move some operational people around. We haven't determined who yet, probably about six people will relocate from Danville to that facility," he said. Because the two properties are connected, Thornton said it made sense not to rent it out to another business and have adjoined drive-ways. The employees' move from Danville to Harrodsburg will not change the operation in the Danville branch, Thornton added.

Also, the bank will be breaking ground on yet another location near mid-July, this time on the north end of U.S. 127 in Harrodsburg, at 1000 Colton Drive.

"In terms of size and operation, it will serve mainly for handling transactions, teller activity," Thornton said. A customer service agent will be on-hand for opening new accounts, and an extra office will house rotating loan officers who can meet customers who find the northern end of the county more convenient.

If construction begins on time in July, the branch should open in November, Thornton said.

"We're also looking at some possible renovation at the Stanford branch to accommodate the growth there, so this is really an exciting time for our company," Thornton said.
