Magistrates give pay raises to EMS employees

June 20, 2007|Bob Flynn

The Jessamine County Fiscal Court Tuesday approved a 50 cent per hour pay raise for Jessamine County Emergency Medical Service employees.

The raise, which covers all hours worked, including regular and scheduled overtime hours, will mean an increase of almost $600 per year for EMS crews.

Magistrates approved Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman's request for the release of funds for the purchase of two police cruisers from Countryside Ford of Lawrenceburg at a cost of $19,722 each. The purchase will be the last of four cruisers that were approved by the court last year. The other two were purchased in February.

The court also voted to change the County Wide Recycling Center hours of operation. The center is currently open half a day on Saturday. The court voted to close it on Saturday and open both the recycling center and the convenience center from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays.

In personnel matters, the court accepted the resignations of Animal Control Officer Lora Gill and Assistant County Attorney Randy Norris.

County Attorney Brian Goettl told the court that Norris' $43,336.28 salary would be used to restructure his office. Anna Roberts Smith was promoted to Assistant County Attorney with a salary increase of $4,000. Kim Soweres was hired as receptionist at $20,00 per year and Jackie Holt will assume some of the duties of the Real Estate and Foreclosure Department.

"That leaves about $13,000 to hire another attorney," Goettl said. "This will increase productivity of the office without costing the county any more money."

The court also opened bids on class-1 asphalt used for resurfacing county roads. A bid of $55.75 per ton was received from Lexington Quarry.

In other business, the court voted to:

â?¢ Proclaim June 21 Goodwill Industries of Kentucky Day in Jessamine County in recognition of the opening of its 50th Center in Kentucky.

â?¢ Transfer up to $150,000 from the general fund to the detention center. The transfer was needed because the jail has not received payment for housing state inmates for April and May.

â?¢ Approve the second reading of the Time Warner Cable franchise agreement.

â?¢ Approve the reappointment of Gary Denton to the Board of Assessment.

â?¢ Approve pay requests from Dalmation Fire Equipment of $28,287, 10th Street Corporation $4,450 and Albert & Burnworth Architects $6,120.

The Fiscal Court will meet again at 11:30 a.m., June 27, instead of July 3 because of the Fourth of July holiday.
