Beautiful summer weather is predicted for the conclusion of the first round of competition in Winchester SuperStar Friday night in downtown Winchester.

Winchester SuperStar is a summer concert series that, over the course of six Friday evenings in June, July and August, will crown talent winners in three age groups.

The competition opened last Friday with preliminary rounds in the 15-and-under and 16-to-28-year-old categories. This Friday will feature final first-round competition in those two age groups as well as the 29 and older category.

Main Street between Lexington and Broadway is closed off for the competition, and a stage and sound system are set up on the courthouse steps facing Main Street. There are also vendors set up along Main Street, including Clark County Community Services, which is selling Winchester SuperStar T-shirts for $10 each. Several downtown restaurants are also open offering food, ice cream and soft drinks.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Friday, with the singing scheduled to start around 7 p.m. Audience voting will determine which singers move on to the second round of competition. Audience members can vote in person at a number of downtown businesses or online at winchestersun.com.

Paper ballot voting is available at Expressions Coffee Shop, Bailey's Caf, Subway, Harper's Pawn Shop, Court Street Gifts, Judy's Stitch in Time, Marlena's, and Captain Cosmo Collectibles.

Voting for this week's competition will end next Wednesday, after which all votes from the first two weeks will be tabulated to determine which singers advance to the next round.

The second round of competition will be July 13 and July 20, with the semi-finals scheduled for Aug. 17 and the finals Aug. 24. In the next two levels of competition, finalists and winners will be determined by a combination of audience voting and live judging by celebrity judges.

Scheduled to compete this week are:

15 and under age group: Blake Toombs, Kourtney Young, Haley Lykins, Julia Luomia, Heather Kiser, and Chelsea Johnson.

16-28 age group: Allegra Emanuel, William Rawlings IV, Lauren Mink, Chelsea Shoemaker, Rayna Edington, Shelly Caudill, Kellee Johnson, Wes Harrison, and Tiffany Short.

29-and-older age group: Jaunita Perry, Eric Bowman, Honey Clark, Pearl Gordon, and Kyle Toombs.

The overall winner will be awarded $500. The winner in the 15-and-under group will win an iPod, the winner in the 16-28 group will win a trip to the nearest "American Idol" tryouts next fall, and the winner in the 29-and-older group will win a free studio recording session.
