Danville City Commission on Monday put off pulling the plug on Fourth of July fireworks until meeting with county officials.
"Out of courtesy to the county, because both city and county contributes, no decision has been made," Danville Fire Chief Mike Thomas said.
The fireworks are planned for dusk July 4 at the Boyle County Fairgrounds on the bypass.
However, Thomas recommended Monday that the fireworks display be postponed because the drought has created tinderbox conditions that pose more fire risks than usual.
The city and county split the cost of the show, about $7,000 a year. Thomas said Boyle County Judge-Executive Tony Wilder is out of town but the fire chief hopes a meeting can be set up Wednesday to discuss the matter.
