July 06, 2007|LARRY VAUGHT

LEXINGTON - Billy Gillispie didn't add another recruit to his Kentucky basketball roster on Thursday, but he did add a needed staff member.

Todd Forcier, who has been at Syracuse the last five years, was named strength and conditioning coach for UK men's basketball. He replaces Scott Holsopple, who left the Wildcats after one season for a similar job at Florida.

"Kentucky is fortunate to be able to attract the very best, and Todd Forcier is one of the very best in the business. He's proven it at the highest level," Gillispie said in a statement released by Kentucky. "Todd has helped his players achieve a great deal while also making sure they are physically prepared for any professional opportunities they may have when they leave school. We're excited to have him at UK."

Forcier was an assistant strength coach at Syracuse and worked with the men's soccer, women's rowing, women's volleyball and women's basketball teams in addition to men's basketball.

The native of Rainier, Wash., graduated from Washington State in 1999 with a degree in kinesiology. Besides coaching at Syracuse, Forcier has coached at Dayton for four years, Nevada-Las Vegas one year and with the NBA's Seattle Supersonics for three years.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to work for coach Gillispie and such a storied program as Kentucky basketball," Forcier said in a news release. "I believe in what Coach Gillispie is doing here and what he can do with such unbelievable resources along with the fan support.

"I relish the opportunity to help the players participate in a championship environment as well as prepare them for the next level of professional basketball."
