Dems select McCuddy as candidate for PVA

Current 6th District Magistrate Duane McCuddy has been chosen as the Democratic candidate for the vacant Jessamine County Property Valuation Administrator position.

The job opened up when Bob Thompson retired as PVA earlier this year.

Democratic party precinct officers from each precinct chose McCuddy from a group of twelve candidates, in a special election held July 7.

Each precinct officer was selected by the Kentucky Democratic Headquarters and represented one-third of the registered voters in a given precinct.

McCuddy's opponent in the November general election will be chosen from a list of four people who passed the state required PVA test.

Matt Hisle, chairman of the Jessamine County Republican Party Executive Committee, said no candidate has been chosen yet, but one will be named before the August 14, filing deadline.

"The Governor is going to appoint someone to fill that position on an interim basis," Hisle said. "I'm not certain, but if the Governor appoints someone the candidate will probably be the person he appoints as interim."

According to Jessamine County Clerk Eva McDaniel, if McCuddy is elected as PVA, County Judge Executive Wm. Neal Cassity will be responsible for naming an interim to replace McCuddy. The replacement will serve until the 2008 general election.

The city officials could also be forced to fill a vacancy, because one of the Republican candidates for the PVA position, Gregory Bohnett, currently serves on the City Planning Commission.

The two candidates for PVA, will square off in the Nov. 6 general election.
