July 24, 2007|ANN R. HARNEY

HARRODSBURG - Two veteran Harrodsburg city workers are retiring.

Fire Chief Charles Stinnett and Senior Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator John Smith will retire at the end of the month.

Stinnett has been fire chief for a little more than two years, but he has worked for the city for almost 23 years, all but 33 months in a hazardous duty job.

Stinnett told the City Commission on Monday that it had been an honor to serve Harrodsburg.

He said it was good to know that a paycheck would always be there as it had during his tenure working for the city.

A new fire chief has not been chosen.

Smith has worked for the city for about 28 years, said Commissioner Eddie Long, the elected official who oversees the water and sewage plants. He said Smith has worked for several departments in city government.
