Timing the 50th reunion of Danville High School's class of 1957 to coincide with the "Raintree County" Festival this weekend was no accident, according to Bob Orndorff, one of the reunion organizers.
"The movie filming in Danville was during the summer going into our senior high school year, and several class members were in the movie. Larry McGhee was in the class scenes of PeeDee Academy. Class members have several amusing stories about experiences during that summer." One of the reunion activities was attending a performance of "Jarful of Fireflies" at Pioneer Playhouse. The play is about Danville during the filming of "Raintree County."
About 47 members of the class' 63 living members attended. The class numbered 75, but 10 are deceased and two are unable to attend because of physical limitations.
Four teachers the class had in high school who are still living and in Danville were guests.
They are Ken and Jane Snowden, Marty Deim and Joyce Melson, who was a class sponsor. A couple of people - E. G. Plummer and Sue Swain Hill - who actually graduated in 1956, but were Class of '57 members until shortly before their graduation, attended.
