Garrard County pageant now preliminary for state competition

The Garrard County Rural Heritage Festival Pageant now is an official preliminary to the Kentucky Festival State Pageant. This year the state pageant will be Nov. 10 and 11 at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington. All division queen winners for the Garrard pageant will advance to the 2007 Kentucky Festival State Pageant.

Sign-ups for this year's Rural Heritage Festival Pageant will be 5:30-7 p.m. Monday and Aug. 13 at Linda's Custom Sports Store on the Public Square. The final date for sign-ups will be Aug. 20 at Garrard County High School. Forms also may be picked up at Linda's Custom Sports and mailed before the Aug. 20 deadline.

The divisions are:

Little Miss - 5-6 years old, $25 registration.

Miss Sweetheart - 7-8 years old, $25 registration.

Little Miss and Miss Sweetheart contestants will model a Sunday dress outfit.

The Little Miss and Miss Sweetheart Pageant is 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at Garrard County High School. If there is more than one participant in the same household for Little Miss or Miss Sweetheart, the registration fee is $20 each.

Duchess - 9-12 years old, $40 registration.

Duchess contestants will model a casual outfit and Sunday dress.

Princess - 13-15 years old, $40 registration.

Scholarship Queen - 16-20 years of age, $40 registration.

Princess and Scholarship Queen will model a casual outfit and gown.

The Duchess, Princess and Scholarship Queen Pageant is 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Garrard County High School. If there is more than one participant in the same household for Duchess, Princess or Scholarship Queen, the registration fee is $35 each.

All contestants must be the division age by the Aug. 20 registration deadline. A queen title can be won only one time per category. Participants who carry the festival crown must wait until their next age category before entering again.

This year's Scholarship Queen will receive $500 in scholarship money, a tiara, scepter, trophy, sash and roses. All other division queens will receive a tiara, scepter, trophy, sash and roses. All runners-up, and Miss Photogenic, will receive a trophy, sash and roses. All division Miss Spirits will receive a tiara, trophy, sash and roses.

To be considered for Miss Spirit of Garrard County, participants must sell the tickets for a Weekend Cabin Getaway. Drawing for the getaway package will be 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Garrard County Courthouse.
