August 01, 2007

Mercer County's Andrew Yeast finished second, and the Titans tied for fifth Tuesday after the two-day Flyer Classic Invitational.

Monday's round was played at the Mariott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington, and Tuesday's final round was played at Juniper Hills in Frankfort.

Yeast shot a 69-68-137 and tied with Andrew Heiser of South Laurel. Yeast took second in a scorecard playoff. Joseph Barr of Woodford County was the medalist with a 71-64-135.

"Andrew had two great ball-striking days. He was able to overcome few mistakes immediately with birdies or pars, and he was able to avoid the big numbers," Mercer coach Jay Anderson said. "He played very consistently throughout both rounds. It's evident he's been playing golf all year round."

Dunbar won the tournament with a 579 two-day total followed by Christian Academy of Louisville (589), South Laurel (590) and Madison Central (602). Mercer and Henry Clay tied for fifth at 607.

Anderson said it was a very competitive field.

"The overall caliber of play in this field, you could tell the golfers knew the game inside and out," Anderson said. "I was very pleased with our strong showing. We played very hard both days."
