Constitution Square Festival scheduled for Sept. 14-16

August 13, 2007

Kentucky history, juried arts and crafts, music and more is on tap once again for the 29th annual Constitution Square Festival in downtown Danville.

The festival, a Kentucky Tourism Council Top 10 designated event, will be Sept. 14-16. This celebration of Kentucky's origins takes place at Constitution Square State Historic Site, the grounds of the actual events surrounding the drafting and signing of Kentucky's constitution in 1792.

Look for strolling musicians, pioneer living history encampments and craft demonstrations. Listen for the sounds of dulcimers, guitars, fiddles and singing, as continuous entertainment is provided throughout the three-day festival.

If you like country, folk, gospel, bluegrass, swing, jazz, blues, bag pipes or toe tapping tunes, the festival will be music to your ears.

And you'll want to shop "till you drop" at the 80 fine arts and craft booths that are the core of the festival, considered by many to be one of the top craft shows in Kentucky.

The festival offers everything from the traditional (quilts, baskets and pottery) to the more contemporary (sculpture, jewelry and blown glass).

In addition, you will find beautifully designed stained glass creations, antiques, Shaker reproductions, pressed flowers, birdhouses, painted gourds, stone creations, clothing plus visual arts, foods, books, music and wood products.

The kids will enjoy the activities scheduled just for them. Kids can take home a souvenir of your hands dipped in wax, ride a horse, get their face painted, and create sand art. Hands-on fun with toys and games from the past, a potter and a natural history program will attract kids of all ages.

Round out your day with a carriage ride through historic downtown Danville or tour Dr. Ephraim McDowell's historic house, Wilderness Trace Art Gallery or the local historical society museum.

Before or after you experience the festival, don't forget the great food and drinks offered by local civic groups. You might even want to participate in the 5K Run on Sunday afternoon. Best of all, there is no admission charge.
