Library event/class scheduled announced

Adult events and classes have been announced at the Clark County Public Library for the remainder of August.

On Monday, Aug. 27, Diane P. Coon, an independent scholar and writer, will speak on the culture and history of some of Kentucky's most important colorful institutions, country stores.

Jerry Cecil, a Clark County historian and educator, will present a program on railroads in Clark County, and on Wednesday, Aug. 29, Harry Enoch, writer and historian, will speak on the history and times of Indian Old Fields.

Thursday, Aug. 30, James M. Prichard, research room supervisor of the Kentucky Archives, will present "Jesse James in Kentucky: Fact, Fiction and Folklore." Prichard will discuss the Kentucky roots of Jesse and his brother, Frank, and the crimes attributed to the James Gang in Kentucky.

The Clark Quilters meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Tuesday, and rug hooking is done each Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

No book lunch is scheduled during August.

The Friends book sale will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, for members only with memberships available at the door.

The part of the book sale that is open to the public will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.

The library will be be closed Sept. 1, 2 and 3 for Labor Day and the annual Daniiel Boone Pioneer Festival.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, the Clark County High School basketball stars will host a reception to celebrate the presentation of the Clark County High School record books dating from 1948 until 1965. The donation of the collection will be a gift to the library's Local History Room from the family of Coach Letcher Norton. Coach Norton's son, Steve, will formally present the books.

Light refreshments will be served, and the event is open to the public. However, seating is limited to 55 and reservations are required and may be made by calling 744-5661.
