McCormack Christian Church was established in 1785 by the Rev. John Bailey and has continued to worship on this site.

The first building was a small log building built on land donated by Daniel McCormack for the purpose of building a church, school, and graveyard.

In 1819 the congregation saw need for a larger building. Plans were drawn up for the present building, being built two bricks thick, with the bricks being burned at the site. The work was done by the members and their slaves with the help of one man who laid the bricks, William Chastain. He was paid one hundred thirty-nine dollars sixty-three and one-half cents. The rest of the work was free labor.
