Haley Hart of Stanford has been selected to participate in the 2007 Bullfrog Southern Team Tennis Championships as a member of Team Kentucky.

Each year, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) Kentucky selects the top three players in the state based on rankings and sportsmanship to represent Kentucky in this major tournament, formerly known as the Davis Cup Junior Championships.

Hart, the daughter of Ewing and Mary Beth Hart, is currently ranked No. 2 in Kentucky in Girls 16 & Under Singles. Hart and her fellow Team Kentucky members will compete against the other eight Southern Section states in Chattanooga, Tenn., Sept. 7-9.

"We are very pleased having Haley represent USTA Kentucky," said Aaron Browning, USTA Kentucky's Junior Competition coordinator. "Not only is she a great tennis player, who is dedicated to improving her game, but she also displays great sportsmanship on and off the court."

Hart's demeanor on and off the court has been recognized by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association as well. During the Girls State Tennis Tournament last spring, in which she reached the Sweet 16, Hart was awarded the KHSAA Girls Sportsmanship Award for 2007.

During the spring, Hart, playing as Lincoln County High School's No. 1 player, qualified for the state tourney with a runner-up finish in the 2007 12th Region Tennis Tournament.

Hart's high school season ended at state, but she has yet to put down her racquet, staying busy with summer tournaments. Her summer tournaments have included a sixth-place finish in the largest USTA Kentucky tournament, third in another USTA event and a championship finish in the Tilghman Tennis Classic in Paducah. Hart was selected to compete at the Southern Closed after being named one of "Kentucky's Finest" by USTA Kentucky.
