Loss named to Who's Who

Sarah A. Loss of Nicholasville was recently named to the 2006-2007 Who's Who Among American High School Students. Students receiving the award are eligible to compete for one of 61 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.

Brooks earns degree from Murray

Jessamine County native Shannon Brooks recently graduated from Murray State University.

Brooks earned a Master of Science degree, one of 364 students who graduated from Murray at the end of the 2007 summer session.

All summer graduates are invited to return to campus to participate in the next regularly scheduled commencement exercises in December.

Ballard, Young receive degrees

Rachel Rejoyce Ballard and Angela Young Bryant were among 1,500 students who received degrees during commencement ceremonies Aug. 11 at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Ballard, of 699 Wise Ave. in Wilmore received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Young, of 127 Green Sentinel Drive in Nicholasville earned a master of education degree.

Indiana Wesleyan is an evangelical Christian comprehensive university located in Marion, Ind.

Crawford named Bonner Leader

Hanna Crawford of Jessamine County was recently named one of 23 Lindsey Wilson College who was accepted into the Bonner Leader program.

The program gives scholarships to students who volunteer at least 10 hours a week in the community.

Crawford is a freshman majoring in human services and counseling.

Reunion planned

The family of Charlie Nichols, who taught band and chorus in the Jessamine County school system from 1972 to 1992, is planning a reunion in his honor in the spring.

Any former students or teachers who taught with him during that time are invited to participate.

There will be an informational meeting at 2 p.m., Saturday Sept. 22, at Los Dos Amigos restaurant in the Edgewood Plaza Shopping Center on South Main Street.

Marching band invitational

The East Jessamine High School band will host its third annual East Jessamine High School Marching Band Invitational Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4:15 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m. at the football field.

The competition will include nine bands competing in four classes.

An awards presentation will follow the close of the competition at 8 p.m.

The East Jessamine High School marching band will perform an exhibition prior to the awards ceremony.

The public is invited to attend.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the East Jessamine High School Band program.
