Letter: The score in vandalism

September 09, 2007

Dear Editor,

I would like to give the readers a chance to determine for themselves which school of the two area high schools is truly more admirable and which is more rebellious. The need to do this is a result of Thursday's Advocate-Messenger's front page story detailing the vandalism of the football stadium at Boyle County, presumably by Danville High School students.

The story would lead the reader to believe that the string of vandalism started with the incident at Boyle County. This, however, is not true.

The story actually begins Monday evening when the anchor in front of Danville's stadium was painted a color other than Admiral blue.

While that does not justify what my classmates may have done at Boyle County, it was the painting of the anchor that sparred the vandalism at Boyle County.

Thursday's article also describes how several Danville students waited on Proctor Street Wednesday night in hopes to prevent any attempts of retaliation. It was reported that the students were told to leave by police and that nothing happened to Danville. Sadly, this is not where the story ends.

Friday morning upon arriving to school I found graffiti on the school building, including several racial slurs. So regardless of the score on the field, when it comes to vandalism the score stands Boyle County 2 - Danville 1.
