Centre field hockey team remains unbeaten

The Centre College field hockey team remained unbeaten by beating Rhodes 3-2 in double-overtime Saturday at Memphis, Tenn.

Centre (7-0, 2-0 SCAC) won a penalty-stroke shootout 3-1, getting goals from Sarah Humphries, Sarah Scheer and Emily Boyle.

Cynthia Morse and Sally Faulkner scored unassisted goals in regulation for the Colonels, one in each half, and goalkeeper Ann Guagliardo had 14 saves.

Volleyball

At Danville, Centre dropped its first two SCAC matches of the season, falling to Austin and Colorado College on Saturday on the first day of an SCAC East-West round-robin.

The Colonels fell to Colorado 31-29, 30-24, 30-15, then lost 30-27, 30-21, 30-25 to Austin.

Senior Sarah Burger had 29 kills in the two matches, including 19 against Colorado College. She also had three blocks against Austin.

Alex Headley added 14 kills, Shannon Rosado had 28 assists, Laura Broughton had 25 digs and Ashton Hupman had eight blocks in the two matches.

Centre plays Trinity and Oglethorpe today.
