LIBERTY - Six people have been charged with automobile, wrecker and church-related thefts that occurred last week in Casey County, and more arrests are pending, Deputy Sheriff Bob Weddle said.

Travis Hatter, 18, of Carman Creek Spur, and a 16-year-old male were charged Tuesday with theft by unlawful taking more than $300 in connection with the theft of a wrecker and automobile from a car lot Sept. 19.

Hatter allegedly took the vehicles from Tim Pittman's used car lot in the Crossroads community.

Weddle said the Ford wrecker apparently ran out of gas about a half mile from Tim Pittman's used car lot and the Chevrolet car was crashed on Dry Ridge Road about four miles from the dealership.

Hatter, the juvenile and four other men were arrested Tuesday in connection with a break-in and theft at Poplar Springs Baptist Church that occurred the night of Sept. 19, Weddle said.

Brian A. Adkins, 33, of Somerset, and Tracy W. Glass, 35, of Kings Mountain, have been charged with tampering with physical evidence in the church break-in.

Hatter, the juvenile and Tim Withers, 41, of 570 Singleton Drive, Liberty, and Michael Daniels, 29, of East Yosemite, were charged with theft by unlawful taking more than $300.

Daniels also was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Weddle said two large speakers, a 50-inch flat screen television and a plastic box with money were taken from the church. The TV has been recovered.

More warrants are expected to be obtained for other suspects in both incidents, Weddle said. Sheriff Jerry Coffman and Deputy Chad Weddle are assisting with the investigation.
