The George Rogers Clark High School boys' soccer team settled for a 2-2 tie against West Jessamine during Senior Night on Thursday at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.

The team's 13 seniors were honored before the contest and the Cardinals (6-3-4) took advantage of the emotional start, scoring two goals in the opening half.

Mason Kirk scored Clark's first goal when he headed in a shot on a cross to the middle from teammate Chris Heil for a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the first half.

Marc Miller increased the margin with a breakaway score, giving the hosts a 2-0 advantage.

West Jessamine (10-3-3) scored both of its goals in the second half. Jacob Lox scored at the 58:31 mark. The guests tied the score on a headed corner kick for the final margin.

Clark managed 13 shots on goal, while Logan Rupard collected three saves. The Colts had seven shots and goal keeper Jake Hendrick had three saves.

Clark coach Greg Dyk was pleased with his team's performance, but would have rather settled for a win.

"At this point in the season, the players have to start finding ways to win," he said. "We just keep doing enough but never more than enough. Multiple times this season, we have had teams down and on the ropes. We just can't finish them."

Dyk added that he was pleased with the play of several individuals.

"Aaron Dini and Marc Miller played very well and the back three (Lucas Waldkirch, Logan Martin and Mark Saporito) were solid," he said.

"Unfortunately, we made two defensive mistakes and West Jessamine capitalized on them."

In the junior varsity game, the Cards rallied to secure a 1-1 tie against the Colts.

Ryan Blair tapped in the tying goal with under three minutes remaining.

"It was a well-fought game," Clark junior varsity coach Patrick Fitzgerald said. "Our work rate was excellent. It was the best game of the season back to front. Ryan Blair had an awesome goal to tie the game. Taylor Moody played well to keep the defensive back in shape.

Clark will play in the opening round of the Colonel Classic against Campbell County in Bourbon County at 6 tonight.

The junior varsity team will complete play in the Larry Rainey Memorial at 3 and 7:30 p.m. at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.
