A Boyle County grand jury will consider the cases of two women charged after an 18-month-old child tested positive for cocaine.
After a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Boyle District Judge Jeff Dotson decided there was enough evidence to send the cases of the child's mother, Ashley Carrier, and aunt, Jessica Coffman, to a grand jury, which next meets Nov. 5.
The two woman were each charged last month with first-degree assault and wanton endangerment after the child tested positive for cocaine at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Carrier, 20, called authorities to her Chestnut Street residence concerned that the boy was acting strangely and may have ingested prescription narcotics. Coffman, 24, said the child may have taken Klonopin but refused to show authorities a presciption bottle or allow them to search the house.
