Asbury College celebrated its homecoming this weekend with three wins in front of large home crowds. The men's and women's soccer teams and the volleyball squad all got big games from impact freshmen in the victories.

â?¢ The men's soccer team (5-8, 1-1 KIAC) faced conference rival Berea College in front of an attendance of 715 and won 4-1. The Eagles scored first in the 17th minute on a spectacular diving header from senior Jason U'Wren, who was playing in his first game of the season after missing most of the year with a knee injury.

Freshman Nick Kerhoulas scored his first goal of the season and senior Nate DeFreitas also scored to send Asbury into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Six minutes into the second half, sophomore Brent McGee beat the Berea defenders downfield and got the ball to senior Manes Preptit who put the ball into the back of the net for a 4-0 lead. Preptit also had two assists in the match.

â?¢ The women's soccer team (6-8, 1-0 KIAC) met Taylor and came away with a 2-0 win. Freshman Katie Crocker started the scoring in the eighth minute when she got a goal off of an entry pass from sophomore Ashley Amburgy. Another freshman, Amanda Bechtel, added an insurance goal late in the second half to put away Taylor.

â?¢ The volleyball team (9-1, 2-2 KIAC) had an impressive outing against Kentucky Christian University as they swept the three-game match 30-18, 30-25, 30-19. Freshman Emily Andrews led the way with 11 kills on just 17 attempts for a .588 attack percentage.

The Eagles won the first game easily, but ran into trouble in Game 2. After trailing by five, Andrews took over and led a rally back to a 24-24 tie. Asbury then scored six of the next seven points to gain a 2-0 lead. They jumped ahead quickly 18-8 in the final game and never looked back.

Freshman Janelle McClean had 14 sets for the Eagles, and sophomore Danielle Morrison collected 15 digs.

Quoteworthy: "I'm really excited about getting [Emily] under a spring season where we get a lot of weight training in. Once she gets a little stronger, she'll get a lot better - even better than she is now." - Asbury volleyball coach Craig Mosqueda on freshman outside hitter Emily Andrews who had a team-high 11 kills in Saturday's match against KCU.
