UK Hoops: Ramel Bradley biography

October 12, 2007

Ramel Bradley, Senior guard

Numbers: He was the only player to start every game last season. ... He led the team in assists (3.7), steals (1.3) and charges taken (6), and was third in scoring (13.8). ... He scored in double figures in 22 of the last 25 games. ... He was the first UK player since Keith Bogans in 2003 to score 20 or more points in four straight games. ... He was second in the Southeastern Conference in free throw percentage (81.5) and made his last 19 attempts. ... He has scored 848 career points and averaged 8.7 points per game in the 98 games he has played.

What's to like: Kentucky doesn't have a player with more enthusiasm or playmaking ability. He can handle the ball and score as shown by the 21 points and nine assists he had against South Carolina last season. He led UK in scoring eight times last year and led the team in assists in 19 games. His defense has improved and it was a vast change last year when he took more charges than anyone on the team.

What's not to like: Sometimes he still tries to do too much, especially in close games. Rather than playing within the system, Bradley can become reckless and force shots or passes when he's impatient and trying to make a big play.

Quotable: "I see it as my last year and a chance to go out and have fun. I want to soak in the experience and live it up every day. It has already gone by fast. I am a senior already. It's crazy to hear someone even say I am a senior. But I most definitely think we can still win a national championship," Bradley said.

Gillispie's view: "When you have a guy like Ramel Bradley, people say do you want a point guard that wants to shoot? I do. I want a guy that wants to score."
