HARRODSBURG - Skeletal remains found Wednesday off Martha Layne Collins Bluegrass Parkway in Mercer County have been identified as a Nicholasville woman, according to Kentucky State Police.

Amanda Lynn Hughes, 25, was found near the shoulder of the westbound lanes at the 54 mile marker. A hunter scouting for deer in the area discovered the remains. Hughes was identified Friday by state forensic anthropologist Dr. Emily Craig and a state forensic odontologist using dental records, according to the Anderson County Coroner's Office. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Hughes' skeleton was not intact when it was found and was scattered, according to KSP. Several pieces of jewelry also were found around the scene.

According to Saturday's Lexington Herald-Leader, Hughes was last seen by her family in February 2006, and was reported missing that March.
