Piling on the points

October 31, 2007|Keith Taylor/Sun Sports Editor

How many points can a football team score in one quarter? Apparently as many as it wants to.

Smith Center, a high school in Kansas, scored 72 in an 83-0 shutout over Plainville on Tuesday night.

The points scored in one quarter could be a record according to the Salina Journal in Kansas. The paper added that Prescott (Ariz.) tallied 66 points in a high school game in 1925.

Don't think I've ever heard of that many points being scored during one quarter of a prep football game.

Here's hoping we don't see too many of those kind of scores around here.
