LANCASTER - Garrard County Fiscal Court agreed Monday to contract with a company that will provide electronic monitoring of inmates.
Bridges in Communities will provide global positioning system monitoring of ankle bracelets for inmates allowed out of jail.
Judge-Executive John Wilson said the county pays $29 a day for each prisoner housed at the Lincoln County Regional Jail. The contract with Bridges in Communities will not only save the county money but provide jobs for the community.
The three-year contract with Bridges in Communities set fees at $20 a day for each prisoner affixed with an ankle monitor.
"It's an alternative to jail, and of course not every inmate will meet qualifications to be put on this," Wilson said.
