Youth Salute

The following George Rogers Clark High School students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principals for this year's Youth Salute. In order to qualify, the student has to be a member of the Class of 2008, have a 3.0 grade point average or better and have been elected to at least two positions of leadership in a school, religious or community-sponsored organization during the past two years. More GRC Youth Salute students will be featured in the Sun in the weeks to come.

LOGAN MARTIN

Logan is involved in many worthwhile community and school activities. He is a member of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team, History Club, and a member of the First United Methodist Church youth group. He was elected to the Youth Council at his church. He has participated in Operation Happiness and many other fundraisers. He is also involved with the Lexington Futbol Club.

Logan received several academic awards, including Academic All State Honorable Mention in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

At this time, Logan is undecided about his college plans. He is the son of Glenn and Daphne Martin of Winchester.

LOGAN MAYFIELD

Logan is a member of the National Honor Society and the GRC golf team, on which he received Academic All-State honorable mention every year. He has been recognized each year for academic achievement awards and has served on the freshmen, sophomore and junior advisories.

Logan was treasurer one year of the History Club and was active in the Pep Club. A member of First United Methodist Church, he was selected to served on the Youth Council Committee. Logan has participated in youth group projects raising money for a cancer patient, supporting a foreign child through Compassion International, witnessing, collecting donations for the Salvation Army, and assisting with the church's Thanksgiving Day community lunch. He also volunteers for the Susan G. Komen Foundation Pink Tie Gala and the First Presbyterian Church of Lexington's Just Lunch, a monthly event to feed the homeless.

Logan is undecided on college and career plans. He is the son of Barry and Kathy Mayfield of Winchester.
